Participant Information and Expression of Interest

If you’re interested in participating in a Pegasus program, please complete our Participant Information and Expression of Interest form. This helps us understand your goals, support needs, availability and any relevant medical or mobility information, so we can assess suitability and safely match you to the most appropriate program. Once submitted, our team will review your details and contact you to discuss next steps, including waitlist timeframes and an intake/assessment where required.

Rider info

Interested participants should complete our Expression of Interest form so that they can be placed on our waiting list. When a vacancy arises, one of our coaches will contact you to arrange a time for an assessment.

Who can participate at Pegasus?

Pegasus provides horse-facilitated activities for people with disability.

Participants with disability can access our programs in one of two ways:

  • A number of local Canberra schools access our programs on a weekly basis.
Children attending these schools are offered lessons as part of their school
program and attend Pegasus during school time.
  • We also offer a limited number of places to participants with disabilities
who attend classes either with their parents or carers. These may be individual
or group sessions depending on the needs and abilities of the participant.

We currently have a waiting list and limited opportunities as our programs are
based on long term involvement (we recommend a minimum commitment of one year).

Initial Assessment

All participants with disability wanting to access Pegasus lessons need to undergo
an initial assessment, which is conducted by our nationally accredited coaches.

This assessment allows us to determine the abilities of the participants and any
special needs that they may have. We can then determine an appropriate pony for
them to ride and allocate them to an appropriate class as placements become available.

The assessment usually takes between 30 minutes to one hour.

How much does it cost?

The 2025 Fee Schedule and Participant Information Guide is available here. If you have any questions about whether your NDIS plan covers Pegasus programs, please contact Pegasus on (02) 6254 9190. All participants are required to pay the annual rider registration fee (Jan-Dec) of $150 which registers them with our national body – Riding for the Disabled Association of Australia – and provides them with personal accident cover.

How are classes structured?

All sessions and activities are taught and supervised by our nationally accredited coaches. Some are staff coaches and some are volunteers, but all have undergone extensive training and been assessed by the national Riding for the Disabled Association as qualified coaches.

Class Cancellations & Emergency Procedures

Pegasus may be required to cancel classes due to risk of bush fire, inclement weather, or extreme heat. Sessions that are cancelled at any time on behalf of Pegasus will not be charged to the participant.

Occasionally if Pegasus is unable to provide the required qualified instructors and support personnel for a safe and effective program on that day, the session will be cancelled and the participant will not be charged for that session.

Total Fire Ban Days

On Total fire ban days, it is a requirement that all participants be accompanied by a parent or carer who remains on the property for the duration of the lesson, in case of evacuation.

Emergency Evacuation

If for any reason Pegasus does need to evacuate in an emergency and there is no transport available for the participant, Pegasus will arrange transportation to McDonald’s at Kippax Shops, and remain with the participant until they can be collected.

Please note that Pegasus reserves the right to evacuate in times of emergency and it may be a member of staff or a trusted volunteer that carries out the evacuation under direction of Coaches and the Emergency Team.

Every person at Pegasus must report to the common room to sign in and sign out.

Weather Policy

Pegasus has a Weather Policy stating that classes may be cancelled due to extreme heat, high winds, or other weather events. This is for the safety of participants, volunteers, staff, and horses.

Wherever possible, Pegasus will provide advanced warning of cancellations, and there will be no charge for Pegasus cancelled classes.

A copy of the policy is available on request.

Participant Cancellations

Pegasus requires a minimum 24-hour notification if the participant cannot make a scheduled session to be considered for a credit or refund.

Participants will receive a maximum of two cancellations per term where they may be eligible for a credit or refund. Any cancellations above this will be charged in full regardless of notice period given.

Credits or refunds will not be allocated for the following:

  • No Shows
  • Less than 24 hours’ notice
  • Exceeding two cancellations in a single term (9 weeks)
